Police arrested a former officer as he was about to turn on the ignition of a stolen taxi cab in Las Piñas City, ABS-CBN News reported Tuesday.

The suspect was identified as Elmer Ramos, a former policeman assigned to the Eastern Police District. Probers said he was dismissed for his alleged involvement in drug-related cases.

Ramos was arrested inside the stolen taxi cab past 6 p.m. Monday in BF Martinville Subdivision in Barangay Manuyo Dos. Police said they kept the vehicle under surveillance to see who was going to drive the vehicle carjacked hours earlier in Pasig City.

The suspect claimed he was in the area for a police operation. Officers, however, arrested him after discovering that his police identification card was fake.
