London Traffic Cameras
The Government has given the go ahead for the expansion in the use of speed cameras. no longer will their installation rely on a criteria related to the number of accidents on a particular stretch of highway, only how many motorists can be trapped exceeding the imposed limit – a revenue raiser not a life saver! and with the introduction of ‘average speed detection’ cameras that can calculate your mean speed over any pre-selected distance, and cameras that not only read a number plate but record the face of the driver, the lives of London’s cab drivers, already under scrutiny from all areas, will become even more stressful. My sources tell me that average speed detection cameras have been sited in both the north and south bore of the Blackwell Tunnel. The speed limit is 30mph northbound and 40mph southbound. It does not appear that any signs warning drivers of these speed traps have been installed, so could it be that it’s only your money the authorities are after and not endorsements on your driving licence? at £100 a time (or £50 if the fi ne is paid promptly), it’s an awful lot of money!
