Taxi driver's skull fractured in Ashford assault
A taxi driver has been left unable to work after an assault in Ashford left him with a fractured skull.
Staines police are appealing for information following the attack on May 11 at the junction of Church Road and Fordbridge Road at 5.05am.
The 31-year-old taxi driver from Hayes, was assaulted after he picked up two men.
During the journey there was an argument about the fare and the driver stopped the taxi at traffic lights.
The passengers and the driver then got out of the vehicle and continued to argue.
“This was a sickening assault on a defenceless man by two cowardly individuals."
The victim was then knocked to the floor by the two men who repeatedly kicked and punched him.
The victim was taken to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey but has since been discharged.
Officers arrested a 27-year-old man from Hayling Island and a 21-year-old from Ashford.
Both have been bailed until June 22.
Detective Constable John Hobbs, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a sickening assault on a defenceless man by two cowardly individuals.
"Fortunately we have arrested two men in connection with this offence but I would still urge anyone who was in the area at the time and or with any information to contact Surrey Police and aid our enquiries."
