BLACK cabs are being used to market the council's biggest ever public consultation exercise aimed at giving everyone a say on how borough funds should be raised.

The 1,622 cabbies living in Redbridge have been enlisted to promote Redbridge Conversation and explain to passengers how they can have their say about the kind of borough they would like to see.

Tory council leader Cllr Alan Weinberg - a former black cab driver himself - has been out promoting the branded cabs.

"Cabbies are renowned for their willingness to strike up a conversation," he said.

"It makes them the perfect people to help us spread the word about Redbridge Conversation.

"I'm pleased that we have enthusiastic cabbies on board to help us drive this campaign forward.

"We want to make sure everyone gets a chance to have their voices heard and have an impact on how they want to shape the future of the borough."

Redbridge Conversation was launched online on May 16.

A council spokesman said: "To date, we have had 3,006 visitors and 564 people have completed the You Choose online questionnaire.

"When they open the page, residents select the investments most important to them, then choose how they want to see them funded."

To take part, visit www.redbridge.gov.uk or pick up a leaflet at council offices, libraries, schools, GP surgeries and post offices.
