Minicab driver’s fine fury

A MINICAB driver from Tottenham has criticised parking officials after he was given an £80 ticket for stopping in a taxi rank.

Arous Mourad, 45, of Station Crescent, says he stopped on the Palmers Green rank to pick up a mother and her three children and insists mini cab drivers should be allowed to work unhindered.

He said: “We provide a good service. If I don’t have a customer, why would I stop there. If they don’t let us work we will give up mini-cabbing.”

A spokeswoman for Enfield Council said: “Current legislation makes it clear that taxi ranks are for licensed taxi drivers - not minicabs which are not allowed to ply for trade on the highway.

“This minicab was captured on CCTV facing the wrong way and there is no evidence of picking up passengers. Mr Mourad is within his rights to appeal.
